The story of Dorcas

Are you aware of the happenings around you? Dorcas was not living on the streets, we were not told of how wealthy she was or how popular she was but she was into her environment, she was influential, everyone knoew she was there.

Every widow had a garment from her, she cared for them, she gave them hope, reassured them they were not alone. Somewhat different from what is obtainable today.

Today, most people mind their own business, give a smile that cannot last two seconds on the face, turn into their shells. Little wonder people get suicidal. Suicide is not a one day action from start to finish. It is an act and a carefully thought through process. An act people around have a role to play.

Someone close by wants to talk, wants to get the load off his head and weight off her mind but everyone’s ‘doors’ and ‘windows’ are shut! There’s just no one around. Someone is writhing in pain and has to wait on an emergency rescue when there are ‘neighbors’ next door.

Please make an effort at doing what you are not used to; step out of the norm. Sit on the porch, stand on your balcony, or park somewhere and take in your environment. See how you can positively affect someone’s life (not just giving a land or having a park named after you! Good but beyond that). Look at that person who never seems happy but whose face lights up the moment someone says hello, they might just need someone to talk to.

Pause a bit from your busy schedule, reach out to someone, talk, listen, give within your means if you have to. Be good to others, care for everyone not just the less-priviledged. Some rich people are dying within the confines of their mansions, alone! Some take to addiction, drugs replace people in their lives because there is no one there and that is all they see.

Help save our world by being conscious of the happenings around you. Let someone (people) know you are gone when you are no longer around just like Dorcas.
